Procedures

Export artifacts

  1. If you want to export specific artifacts, decide which artifacts to export by one of these methods.
    • Select the artifacts to export.
    • Apply filters to specify the artifacts to export. You can apply multiple filters.
  2. In the ribbon bar, click Report/Export .
  3. In the Artifacts & Output settings, under Artifacts, select which artifacts to export:
    • To export all artifacts, click the All button.
    • To export only the artifacts in the filter result, click the Filtered option button.
    • To export only the artifacts that are selected at the moment, click the Selected option button.
  4. Select the output formats and click Next.

    Tip: You can export to many formats at the same time.

  5. Select output options to customize your report and click Next.

    These options are different for different output formats. See Export formats for more information.

  6. Enter Location data. See Location options for details.
  7. Select the Archive file options. See Archive file options for details.
  8. Make selections in the Other options. See Other options for details.
  9. Click Export.

Example: To export general information about the device including messages in an HTML output, you must select General Information and Messages. Open the Report/Export settings and select the HTML output option. Follow the step by step procedure to create an HTML report with the specific artifacts from your selected filters.

Tip: XAMN Options includes a Folder structure setting. By selecting Flat folder structure, you will get the exported files in a flat folder structure instead of in a sub-folder structure.

Location options

  1. In the Location section, provide a Name for the export. A folder with this name will be created.
  2. Select where to store the export folder.
    To select a specific folder, select Choose folder and then click Browse.... Previously selected folders are available by clicking the expand symbol .
    To store the export folder as a sub-folder of your current case folder, select Current folder.
  3. Under Archive file (.zip), you can choose to export the results to a compressed archive file (.zip).
    You can also select to protect the compressed archive with a password. If you do, enter a password in the text box.
  4. Click Export.

Note: If you want to include the extracted files in the export, and not only include the artifact metadata, you must also select the "File" export format.

Archive file options

Options related to putting your results in a compressed archive file (.zip)
  • To not zip the exported files, select No.
  • To create individual .zip files for each export format selected, select Per export type.
  • To create one .zip file that contains all the exported files, select All.

Note: There are differences in how timestamps are set on exported files depending on the option you select. See Interpretation of timestamps to learn more.

Password-protect the archive file
  1. Select the Protect the documents check box.
  2. In the text box, type a password.

Note: When timestamp adjustment is activated (Show in local time is selected), all reports and exported files except Extended XML files contain timestamps adjusted to the selected time zone. Extended XML files include both the UTC timestamp and the adjusted timestamp.

Other options

You can manage how to open the exported artifacts under Other options, select one or more of the following:

  • To automatically open all exported files after the export is completed, select Open file(s) after export.
  • To automatically open the folder of the export after the export is completed, select Open folder after export.
  • To automatically open the log file of the export after the export is completed, select Open Log file after export.

Note: If you select the File check box, the extracted data files will be included in the export. If you export to many different formats at the same time, the extracted data files are exported to only one folder.
